Shining Light

Attention to all my people who make up the extraordinary Jaguar Land: I have just few words for you.  In case you have not realized it, we have some of the best athletes in all the land.  
Why? Simply because they perform and their performance and is what helps give Southern the reap it has. The other half is the people who love and truly support the athletes, which consists of coaches, fans and support staff. When others see us coming, no matter how bad and good we are that season, they aim to beat the living daylights out of us for bragging rights to be able to say “We beat Southern.”    To others, every meet with Southern is Championship game to them.   Yeah we rag on the football team and men’s basketball and in good reason sometime.
The reason that I felt need to point this out is simply because we complain about Southern as a whole school in general.  In many cases sports are the only aspect of the school many people ever hear about. That fact holds true to many of the students who attend Southern.  
So, if sports is all you care about, if you are just a fan or an enthusiastic supporter, realize what we have and how important it is to take pride it.  Athletes I know how it is; I have seen first hand how hard you guys work, so don’t ever let anyone take away the love you have for what you are doing.  Don’t start doing it in vain; take advantage of your athletic career and enjoy.
No, I don’t like everything that goes on concerning athletics. But fair treatment of all is a foreign statement when it comes to Southern University athletics. That is why you have to love it.  So get past the fact that we did not win the 2001 football or volleyball SWAC Championships. Think about how the men’s cross-country team did win.
The men’s basketball team may not win this year, but maybe the women’s basketball team will.  Track is going to bring a few more home. Bowling has no reason not to bring one home.  We still have baseball, softball, golf and tennis to look forward to bring something to the table.  We have one SWAC Championship in the bag and 12 that we still have a chance at winning.
So please keep supporting Jaguar athletics.
