As the school year comes to an end, the lives of many Southern University graduates are just beginning.
SU will hold its Spring Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 10, 2002 at 9 a.m. Due to renovations commencement will be moved from the F.G. Clark Activity Center to A. W. Mumford Stadium.
“My time hear at Southern has been some of the best years of my life. I have met many people and made many friends. Friendships that will last a lifetime. I feel that Southern has prepared me for the hard times the world may have in store for me,” said Larry Watterson a computer science major from Bogalusa.
Johnnie Cochran is scheduled to be the keynote speaker. The former “Criminal Lawyer of the Year” became famous in 1995 when he was the lead attorney in the infamous O.J. Simpson murder case.
“I think it’s great that Johnnie Cochran is going to be the commencement speaker. He is a very influential and positive black man that we all can look up to,” commented Riyad Ali, a marketing major from Moreno Valley, Calif. “He’s much better than Mike Foster for graduation.”
