I usually try my best to write about something uplifting, some “high expectations”. Don’t you agree? But there is this one little thing nagging me and it popped up as soon as entered my password to my wonderful “collegeclub” email account.
Ok, who’s tired of hearing about R. Kelly and his version of “child’s play”? Let me be the first to raise my hand.
Every single day I go to cyber world to check my mail, I see: “Fwd: R Kelly sex tape!” or “go to www.rkellysextapes.com for your copy today!” (which is not a real website, by the way…so I’ve heard). For those of you who’ve been on Pluto for the past couple of weeks, Mr. “I Believe I Can Fly” has allegedly had sex with an under-aged female over a period of time and videotaped the whole thing. The case is pending, with his lawyers arguing that the male in the homemade porno is not Kelly, but possibly a look-a-like…or that someone edited the tape to put Kelly’s face in the place…of the alleged crime. Anyway, seeing all of this hoopla over this only made me think of many of the other “stars” who have been restless and reckless.
Let’s start way back in the day. Remember Rick James? How can you forget. Mr. “Fire and Desire” was definitely a “Superfreak”. Drug and sexual abuse charges have floated over the musician’s head for years.
Then “bad boy” Bobby Brown has his antics. From indecent behavior on the stage (in his concert days…remember?) to reckless driving and drug charges, he’s still on the books.
Then we have our lovable rappers who are constantly in the papers. Let’s see: roll call: DMX, Old Dirty Bastard (Osirus), Eminem, C-Murda, MAC, Shyne (who didn’t even get a chance to shine long), Jay Z, Puff Daddy…oops, I mean P-Diddy …the list goes on and on.
While some people will just brush that off and say, oh, that’s just the rappers…that’s just the men being thuggish…think again. Even the divas have gotten into the act.
Look at Whitney. Poor Whitney. Everybody wants to flash a camera when she’s down, huh? Need I say more?
Then…we have our rising star, KeKe Wyatt, who was recently arrested for stabbing her husband several times Christmas Day, 2001. If convicted, she faces up to twelve years in a correctional facility.
I’m not pointing fingers at these stars. I’m quite sure they have realized their mistakes and have moved on. It doesn’t really affect their talent or their competence…or does it? I hate to bring up Whitney again, but she did cancel out on that awards show …remember?
I really didn’t mean for this to be a gossip column/rap sheet. I guess that’s what I get for checking my email before sitting down to write. I promise it won’t happen again, ok?
