Before an athlete is able to play at Southern University — or any collegiate institution — they are first students.
They still have to satisfy the same requirements any other student has in order to graduate from college. Hence, they are on double duty, they are in the classrooms earning their degree and either on the field or on the court, competing for a win. This fall, there are 14 student athletes scheduled to receive their degrees from Southern University.
These students will be recognized among their fellow teammates and coaches at Southern’s Athletic Department Robing Ceremony.
“This is a little ceremony put together for the student athletes,” said Ayanna Penn, athletics academic counselor. “We are showing our appreciation for their endeavors.”
