The Southern University Jaguars men’s basketball teamdefeated Grambling State University 61-55 at the F.G. Clark Activity Center onSaturday night.
“I thought our guys really came out and gave a good effort,”said Southern head coach Michael Grant. ”We shot poorly again from the free throw line but that’s kind ofdisturbing and we have to get back at it again. Guys have to step up and make plays.”
The Jaguars (9-10, 6-4) recovered from losing threeconsecutive road games.
Jag’s senior forward Peter Cipriano had a double-doublescoring 14 points and 10 rebounds. Deon Saunders led the Jaguars with 17 points and nine rebounds- pointguard Chris Alexander added 10.
Brion Rush scored a game high 22 points for Grambling.
Grambling shot 30.5 percent while Southern made 46.2 percentof their shots.
A crowd of 2,867 attended the rival game.
Southern led 30-23 at the half.
“We have to continue to win at home I think it’s very bigfor us- winning at home,” Grant said.
The next game for the Jaguars is on Monday againstArkansas-Pine Bluff at 7:30 p.m. in the F.G. Clark Activity Center.
