The Southern University LadyJaguars softball team will host the Southwestern Athletic Conference WesternDivision member Texas Southern University Lady Tigers at SU Lady Jags’ softballfield.
Southern (17-9, 9-3 SWAC) isriding an eight game win streak and will be looking to extend it on Friday andSaturday. Games will begin at noonand 2 p.m. on both days.
“As the season progresses wewant to get better as a team,” said Nancy Marshall, the Lady Jags’ head coach.
This past weekend Southern sweptthe University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff in their four-game series 7-2, 12-2,13-0, and 9-1. Juniors JamilaTaylor recorded 12 strikeouts in the first game while Samisha Bledsoe pitched atwo-hitter in the last game of the series. Freshman Kortney Ruiz recorded hersecond shutout of her collegiate career and sat down six batters, her highesttotal on the year. With those winsSU moved into first place of the Western Division.
Before the game the Lady Jaguarswill be recognized as the first team to win 200 games in softball in the SWAC.
