On March 30, the NationalCollegiate Athletic Association announced the women’s bowling championshipfield.
Eight teams were chosen tocompete in the championship.
The Southern University LadyJaguars (86-53 NCAA points) were not chosen from the southern division.
“The girls did a fantastic job,”said Southern head coach Karen Couvillon. At the beginning of the year I didn’t think we’d be in the SWACChampionship, that’s how weak we were. They worked their hearts out. It was just like a one point loss in abasketball game.”
Last season the Jaguars finishedfifth nationally in Houston.
The teams, in ranking order,are: University of Nebraska Lincoln (defending champions), New Jersey CityUniversity, Central Missouri State University, Fairleigh Dickinson University,Sacred Heart University, University of Maryland,
Eastern Shore, Bethune CookmanCollege, Fayetteville State University. All eight teams were selected at-large. The championship will be heldApril 14-16 at BRC Wekiva Lanes in Orlando, Fla.
