MAURICE(AP) — A 15-year-old student has died of meningitis. Jade Holmes, a student atNorth Vermilion High school, was hospitalized over the weekend with flu-likesymptoms.
Visitationwas scheduled Wednesday at Delhomme Funeral Home, with Holmes’ funeral Thursdayat St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.
He is thesecond Vermilion Parish resident to die of meningitis this year, KLFY-TVreported.
Griefcounselors went to North Vermilion High to help students deal with theirclassmate’s sudden death, and the president of the student body led a minute ofsilence in his memory.
Holmes’twin brother, Jace Holmes, attends the school.
PrincipalMichael Guilbeaux said public health officials have assured him that otherstudents are not at risk because the type of infection Holmes had was notcontagious.
