SAVANNAH, Ga.(AP) – A former beauty queen wept Monday as she told jurors thather boyfriend threatened to kill her and appeared to be reaching for a gunbefore she shot him to death outside the home of another woman he was dating.
”I fired one shot. I fired away fromhim,” Sharron Nicole Redmond testified at her murder trial. “I turned to driveoff. … I didn’t think anyone had been shot.”
Redmond, 23,fired at boyfriend Kevin Shorter from inside her car. The bullet hit Shorter inthe buttocks and pierced a major artery.
Redmond, whohad been crowned Miss Savannah 2003 four months earlier, testified that she hadgone to the home of Rachel Hall to clear up accusations that Redmond had madeharassing phone calls to her and the two talked calmly before Shorter arrived.
“His firstwords when he got out of the car were, “B***h, I’m going to kill you,'” Redmondsaid. “He was shaking, trembling all over. I had never seen him that mad.”
Redmondtestified on Friday that Shorter had slapped and hit her several times duringtheir three-year relationship.
The night ofthe shooting, Dec. 16, 2003, he stormed toward her until Hall stood in his way,Redmond said. Redmond said she retrieved the gun Shorter had helped her buybecause she was being stalked by another man.
