FrankRansburg, a Southern University alum, professor, political analyst andhistorian will address SU as the faculty speaker for the semester Thursday,March 31, in the Cotillion Ballroom of the Smith-Brown Memorial Student Union.
Born inKeatchie, Ransburg grew up in DeSoto and Caddo parishes. In the fall of 1961,he enrolled at SU and majored in political science. He was active in the Student Government Association andelected into Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.
In 1995 hereceived a Bachelor of Arts degree from SU and was employed by the universityas a resident counselor.
Ransburg isconsidered an authority of the life of President Lyndon B. Johnson. In 1989 hewas appointed by the Lyndon Baines Johnson Foundation to coordinate activitiesfor the 117 predominately black colleges and universities in commemoration ofthe 25th anniversary of the Johnson Presidency. He frequently visits the LBJLibrary at the University of Texas at Austin to serve as consultant.
Ransburg didgraduate study at Louisiana State University and is a graduate of the Instituteof Politics at Loyola University in New Orleans. During his administrativetenure at Southern University he severed as a part-time instructor of politicalscience and as a counselor in the Louisiana State University Junior Division.
A recognizedpolitical analyst and political historian, Ransburg has appeared on the ABCtelevision network, Australian News, Louisiana Public Broadcasting and is aregular guest on several radio stations.
In 1999 heretired after 35 years of service during which he held several administrativepositions including assistant dean of men, director of student activities,director of international student affairs, assistant to the chancellor and vicechancellor for student affairs.
Since hisretirement, Ransburg has returned to Southern University to work as anarchivist and adjunct Professor of Political Science.
Ransburg ismarried to the former Ivory Bowie of Melville and the father of Ursula, a localattorney.
