The Homecoming concert for 2007 is up and coming. Southern University’s Student Government Association has planned for a variety of artists to perform.
According to SGA President Carey Ash, Yung Joc, Lloyd, Richboy, Webbie and Foxx are all expected to perform. The performers were chosen based on the poll conducted by SGA and through blackboard.
“I took my cues from the people,” said Ash.
Some of these artists’ singles that may be familiar to students are “Coffee Shop” by Yung Joc, “Get It Shawty” by Lloyd, “Wipe Me Down Remix” which features Foxx and Webbie and “Good Things” by Rich Boy.
“There will be something for everybody and it will be very entertaining to the students,” said Wilbert Jones, Chairman of the Homecoming Committee. He went on to say that the stage will be set up in a theater style and that there will be a photographer on site for those students who would like to take pictures.
Jones also mentioned that there will be no reserved seating, and the floor will be organized in a festival style allowing students to stand while watching the performances.
Last year’s performers were Crime Mob, Trae, Letoya Luckett, 112, and Juvenile.
“The Homecoming concert is probably the most attended event along with the football game,” said Jones.
This year the concert will be held on Thursday, October 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the F. G. Clark Activity Center.
Jones predicts that the concert will last until 11:30 p.m.
“I am planning on going to the concert,” said Corlis Armmer, a freshman theater major from Memphis.
Southern students with a valid ID card are able to attend. However, this is a student event only and it is not open to the general public. Students from other colleges are allowed to attend the concert, but they must purchase tickets and also bring with them a valid university ID.
Tickets may be purchased at the ticket office on Harding Blvd. They are $25 in advance and $30 at the door at the Activity Center on the night of the concert.
If there are any questions regarding tickets to any homecoming event, students may call (225) 359-9328 for more information.
