The Southern University Police Department has recently announced new security measures to help manage the security better on campus.
Beginning Monday, Nov. 13, after 5 p.m., the main entrance to the SUPD office will be locked. The regular entrance has been replaced by a camera sensor and a speaker phone intercom visitors will need to use to gain service from the force.
According to police officials, to enter into the police station, students, faculty and visitors alike must walk up to the police building door, in front of the camera and hold down the speaker button, located on the right of the door, to talk and wait for a “buzz” to enter the building.
Capt. Charlene Anderson said she wants the student body and faculty to be aware of the new procedures, but also wants to inform the students in case of emergency to not panic if the doors are locked. Anderson said there will always be an individual monitoring the police department to service their needs.
“We are a 24-hour campus police department,” she said.
