April 3 to 9 has been designated as Committed to Christ Week and Christians throughout campus and Metropolitan Baton Rouge have big plans for Southern students.
The week kicks off on Monday with an informational at the Smith-Brown Student Union Lobby. There will be paraphernalia for students interested in joining.
The week will end on April 9 with ChristFest 2006, a traditional church service held in the Union with gospel music featuring choirs, quartets, rappers, dancers, poets and other forms of ministry.
“The importance of spiritual life helps you remember what’s important in your life and your purpose”, said Minnie Fountain, C2C faculty advisor. “The most important events I’m looking forward to is the ‘Let’s Talk Solutions Spiritual Motivational Series’ on Tuesday and the Christian Hip-Hop X-Plosion on Friday,” Fountain said.
Fountain said the highlight of the week would be on April 4 when Baton Rouge Mayor-President Melvin “Kip” Holden is scheduled to speak in the Cotillion Ballroom of the Union.
“Being a Christian, I feel it’s awesome that there will be a week dedicated to the uplifting of God. I think its cool”, said Melissa Palmer, a freshmen elementary education major from San Diego.
According to Fountain, the Committed to Christ Student Organization started in 1999 and is a non-denominational Christian organization designed to be the bridge between academic life and spiritual life at Southern according to Fountain.
“We want Christians here at Southern to stand up and profess who they are,” Fountain said.
