The Student Government Association elections for freshmen class officers were held on September 5, and runoffs were conducted the next week on September 7. In the Presidential race Paul Gatlin, marketing major from Lafayette defeated Ernest Elly with a total of 234 vote’s to173.
“I feel great about winning. I’m glad the campaign is over now I can go to work for the freshmen class,” said Gatlin.
The position of Ms Freshman will be assumed by Shante’ Robinson, biology major from Shreveport, who won 243-160 over Chanel Lemelle.
“I am so blessed right now. I got through this with the grace of God and I thank everyone who voted for me,” stated a tearful Robinson.
Arthur Monroe, chemistry major from Baton Rouge, won the vice presidential race by defeating Ashley Patton 254-146.
The freshman senators are: Martin Cooper, Ty- Shamika Fleming, Brandy Gilmore, Carmen Rossum and Alonzo Savoy.
