HEALTH WALK-A THON
COME JOIN US! The Links Inc. are having their 7th Annual Walk-a Thon For Health and Hunger in over 150 cities throughout the U.S. You will have a chance to meet new people and learn how you can make a health a habit! The event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001 at the AW Mumford Stadium (Track) at Southern University. The cost is $10 per participant and $5 for senior citizen and students with school ID. The junior class is hosting a massive community service project. The event, “The Little Bit of Everything Drive” will take place on Wed. FAIR HOUSING SUMMIT
The City of Baton Rouge, the Mayor’s Office, Office of Community Development in cooperation with Urban Restoration Enhancement Corporation, Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Greater New Orleans Fair Housing Action Center, Inc are the official hosts for “Improving Communities by Opening Doors and Neighborhoods.” The summit will be held Friday, September 28, 2001 from 8:30 am- 3 p.m at Southern University in the Student Union. The opening lecture for the 2001-02 SU Law Center Speaker’s series has been re-scheduled for Fri., Sept. 28 in Room 139 AA Lenoir Hall at SUBR. Peter Maggs, the Peer and Sarah Peterson Professor of Law at the Univ. of Illinois College of Law will speak on “Computers & the Law” at 12 p.m. Other lectures in the series are Attorney L. Chestnut, Jr. senior partner in the largest black law firm in Alabama, to speak on “Class Action Racial Discrimination and Proposed African-American Reparations,” at 12 p.m. Fri. Oct 12, 2001. The Annual SU Radiothon will be broadcast live from the Southern University Smith-Brown Memorial Union. SOCIAL & BEHAVIOR RESEARCH CONFERENCE
The Department of Psychology and Social Work will sponsor the 3rd Annual Social and Behavioral Science Student Research Conference. The purpose of the conference is to provide students the opportunity to present research papers and to increase the number of social and behavioral science majors that conduct research papers and present them at professional conferences. The Theatre department of Southern University will perform the theatrical play”Here” by Michael Frayn, directed by George Whitfield.
