Jags take on winless MVSU in classic

The Southern University Jaguars take on the Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State University, Saturday, October 27 in the Port City Classic to be held in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Southern and Mississippi will be meeting for the 33rd time, with SU leading the series 24-9.
Mississippi Valley is coming to Shreveport off a 38-21 lost to Texas Southern University. Southern is coming off a week-long break after a 24-21 loss to Jackson State University.
The last time these teams met, the Jaguars defeated the Delta Devils 42-13 in A.W. Mumford Stadium.
In last year’s game the Jaguars jumped out to an early 7-0 lead on a 14-yard touchdown by Ryan Lewis. Their lead was widened by two second quarter TDs, bringing the score to 21-0. Valley made their first score of the night late in the second quarter, on a 26-yard fumble recovery.
Two SU touchdowns later and a 71-yard passing touchdown by Valley and the game was over Jags 43 Devils 13.
Kickoff is set for 3 p.m., in Independence Stadium.
Game weekend activities include the Battle of the Bands and Greek Show, to be Friday, October 26, at 7 p.m. at the CenturyTel Arena. Maze featuring Beverly will perform a post-game concert.
