SU HEAD START PROGRAM
The SU Head Start Program are having their Annual Fall Festival on Fri. Oct. 26, 2001 @ 10 a.m. until. The festival will be held at Elton C. Harrison Drive, Bldg. 131. (Across the street from the Baranco-Clark Health Center). There will be food, fun and games. The SU student body and faculty are encouraged to attend this event.
SOCIAL & BEHAVIOR RESEARCH CONFERENCE
The Department of Psychology and Social Work will sponsor the 3rd Annual Social and Behavioral Science Student Research Conference. The purpose of the conference is to provide students the opportunity to present research papers and to increase the number of social and behavioral science majors that conduct research papers and present them at professional conferences. All students in the social sciences are encouraged to participate. Registration forms must be submitted by October 26, 2001. The conference is scheduled for November 9, 2001. SCHOOL OF NURSING APPLICATIONS
The School of Nursing will be accepting applications for admission for the spring 2002 semester. The deadline for submitting applications is November 1, 2001. All students must meet the following criteria: 1) have a gpa of 2.6 or above, 2) submission of ACT/SAT scores, and 3) completion of all courses listed in the first three semesters of the nursing curriculum plan with a minimum grade of “C”. MISS BLACK LOUIISIANA PAGEANT
Miss Black Louisiana U.S. and Miss Black Teen Louisiana U.S. scholarship pageant will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2001 at the Performing Arts Theatre, Head of Texas Street in Shreveport, La at 6 p.m. The application entry deadline is November 2, 2001. AEROBIC INSTRUCTOR NEEDED
The Intramural Sports Dept. is in need of an aerobic instructor. The instructor must be a student at SU and has an unmet financial aid need. The instructor will be paid through college work-study. MOCK LSAT TEST
The Southern University Pre-Law Society is offering a free mock LSAT Test on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001 from 8:30 a.m. – 1p.m. Kaplan, which teaches the LSAT will conduct a full mock LSAT under test conditions and will grade the test for your benefit. The doors will open at 8:30 a.m. and the test will begin at 9 a.m. There will be no admittance after 9 a.m. The test will be held in rooms 118 and 119 Higgins Hall. MEN’S FEDERATION RAFFLE
The Men’s Federation will be having a raffle beginning Oct. 26-30, 2001. The raffle is to benefit their annual Thanksgiving drive. First prize is $100, 2nd prize is $50 and 3rd prize is $25. HONDA ALL-STARS
SU is now accepting applications for the 2001 Honda All-Star Challenge Campus Tournament Team. Applications will be accepted from individuals, departments, clubs, sororities, fraternities and other student organizations. Teams will comprise of four students and two alternates. Each team member must be enrolled and in good standing at SUBR. The winners will represent SU in the Honda National Tournament featuring HBCU’s in Orlando, Fla., and compete for more than $305,000 in prizes. Deadline for applications is Monday, Nov. 26, 2001.
