Everyone’s adrenoline is flowing about the game, the Battle of the Bands, and the Greek show. Before you have fun, think about the future, and your career.
On Friday, November 23, from noon until 5 p.m. the “State Farm Bayou Classic Super Job Fair” will be in full swing, held at the Hyatt Regency French Market Square.
“The job fair is a slightly different venue. It offers more diversity towards liberal arts majors, science majors and social science majors,” said Julie Wessinger, associate director of Career Services at Southern University.
Companies strongly suggest that you dress accordingly and be prepared to interview. A resume is required to attend the job fair.
“Students won’t be use to this career fair because it’s smaller than the one here on campus, but it offers more diversity,” added Wessinger.
Tips for interviewing:
* Always look the interviewer in the eye.
* Answer questions honestly, and think before you answer.
* Don’t be afraid to talk about your accomplishments “sell” yourself, don’t gloat in yourself.
* Always ask questions (If they are filling positions immediately, etc) do not be afraid to ask about salary or financial compensation because employers know you are curious about it. A good way to ask is “What is the companies starting salary?”
* Ask about benefits, perks, and stock options.
* Ask about advancement in the company.
* Always give a firm handshake.
