It was a mutual decision made by Dr. Edward Jackson, Southern University-Baton Rouge, chancellor and the former director of Financial Aid Debra Ephrom to transfer her to another position on campus.
“It was something that I knew was coming. It is not as dramatic as it seems,” said Jackson. “Ms. Ephrom took the job for a better opportunity.”
According to Ephrom, her new position is to help develop the American Disabilities Act Program at Southern University. The American Disabilities Act is a division of the financial aid administration, which is under the direction of Flandus McClinton, vice chancellor of administration and finance.
At the present time the Financial Aid Office, which falls under McClinton also, has named Linda Carr as the interim director of financial aid. Carr, whom has extensive experience in Southern’s financial aid, is a candidate for the position.
Jackson has stated that several administrators and the Student Government Association have setup a search committee to find a new director of financial aid.
“I hope to have a director in place by next semester. The school has advertised the position and in national publications, and the search will extend beyond the campus, beyond the city and beyond the state,” added Chancellor Jackson.
Jackson stated that students should prepare themselves to accept the new and positive changes that will be made to the financial aid department next semester, even if a new director is not in place by then.
