A Southern University civil engineering student smashed his Lincoln Towncar into a Jag Train bus Friday.
Justin Wilson of St. Francisville, tried to pass a Capital Transportation Company bus as it was pulling away from the curve in front of the T.T. Allain building.
The right front end of Wilson’s car struck the left side of the bus.
“I don’t see how I was in the wrong. My car is messed up; I know that,” Wilson said.
According to CTC driver, Avis Raymond, her left-turn signal was operating when she pulled the LSU/SU transfer bus out. She said she stopped the bus and put her caution lights on after Wilson’s car hit the bus.
“Cars always try to pass my bus on the left side whenever I stop in front of T.T. Allain,” said Raymond.
Stephanie Comeaux, the CTC Boley Hall bus driver, witnessed the accident.
“The guy tried to pass me and her. I was looking into my left mirror when I saw him,” she said.
Corporal Carl T. Nettles, with the Southern University Police Department took statements from the drivers and witnesses regarding the accident. He had all bus passengers show him where they were sitting and asked them to fill out a courtesy card.
Boyd Dixon, CTC supervisor, came out to access the situation and took photographs of the accident.
This was the third CTC bus accident on campus since the introduction of Jag Train in 1998, according to Kevin Johnson, director of police administration. The first two took place in 1998.
