This year, the Bayou Classic Greek show will go on, with one school excluded.
The Greek show usually features first place winners of Greek shows held at Southern University -Baton Rouge, Grambling State, Dillard University, and Southern University -New Orleans.
But this year the Southern University System will only be sending those winners from the Baton Rouge campus and Grambling will now be sending, both, their first and second place winners.
“Doing so, would allow Grambling State a more “fair chance” at competition,” stated Mary Johnson, executive secretary for the president and co-coordinator of this year’s Greek show.
Terral Jackson, director of student programs at SUBR took this fact into consideration.
“Because SUNO will not have any representatives, I asked if we (SUBR) could also send our first and second place winners,” Jackson said.
Doing may have allowed the Beta Psi chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha to attend, and the Beta Sigma chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, to participate along with the first place winners Alpha Tau chapter of Delta Sigma Theta and Alpha Sigma chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi.
But neither organization will be attending, due to insufficient amount of time for preparation and a pending suspension, respectively.
The Greek show will be held at the Louisiana Superdome November 23, at 7 p.m.
