The Honors College has changed to include more than just a building. The atmosphere, environment and attitude of its students and faculty have also changed.
“We have been a regular participant in this program for about five or six years. It’s an excellent opportunity for our students. They get the Spanish experience of living in homes with persons of that country,” said Beverly Wade, Dean of the Honors College.
The new building, perpendicular to the Southern University Police Department is more updated and has access to more resources.
The building houses brand-new resource labs, computer rooms, study areas, and even student tutors.
“We see our students more, and we can interact with them on a totally different level. It’s great, ” said Deidre James, Honors College advisor and associate professor of Biology. “Now that we have the resources we can better provide for our students.”
With it new environment and resources, the Honors College will host the Honda All Stars State Quiz Bowl Competition.
Representatives excelling in the event will advance to the national competition in Orlando.
The Honors College is also sponsoring students to participate in the Study Abroad Program in Mexico this summer.
The Study Abroad Program is a three- week program offered for college credit.
