Chris Davis scored 27 points and collected nine rebounds while Geri Guillory and Julius Ingram added 12 points each as the Southern Jaguars men’s basketball team destroyed the Braves of Alcorn State 86-67, Saturday night.
The Jaguars tough defense forced the Braves into 21 turnovers and held them to 41-percent shooting from the field for the game.
Steffon Wiley added 11 points, while Barry Honore’ added 10 points.
SU jumped out to a 30-16 lead on an Honore’ jumper with 8:32 in the first half and extended the lead to 17 on a Davis jumper at 2:05. SU led at the half 43-31.
Alcorn tied the game at 50-50 on a Jarvis Williams three-pointer but Southern pulled away and ended the game on a Joseph Jack dunk with five seconds to play to win by 19 points.
Troy Jackson led Alcorn with 25 points.
The Jaguars will travel to face Grambling State on Saturday, Feb. 9. The game will be televised at 1 p.m., on ESPN2 from Grambling’s new basketball arena.
SU defeated Grambling 76-56 earlier this season.
