Car insurance agencies such as Allstate, State Farm and Geico offer incentives for college students. These incentives help the many students that have to manage their tuition, cell phone bills, credit cards, car notes, car maintenance and most of all car insurance.
Allstate offers various discount opportunities for college students. The agency tries to look at every possibility to assist the students in their expensive college life.
“Students’ car insurance is normally higher because they are at higher risk. We try to help out as much as we can. Students can receive discounts if the student has a B average or is in the top 20 percent of their class, lives over 100 miles from home, has five years of experience with car insurance, has at least two years in a driver course, has a economy car (meaning the car was made in 2002 or before), if the students current car has anti-lock brakes, daytime lights, air bags and any kind of alarm system,” said Andrea Ros, an Allstate agent.
Ros also mentioned that students may receive discounts if they are good consistent payers and if they renew their insurance before the actual date.
State Farm and U.S. Agencies offer incentives as well. Students may receive discounts if they are in good standing at their university, has an excellent driving record and is a consistent payer.
“I love State Farm because they have little perks for college students. For instance if you have never been in a car accident or if you have a B average; the discount isn’t much, maybe $20 off, but it helps, especially as a college student, every little bit counts,” said Sarah Barfield, a sophomore criminal justice major from Coushatta.
Students can rely on Geico if they are looking for a company that will work with them and understand their college experience and financial situations.
According to Sales Associate Leonard Giles, Geico, a car insurance company that is geared towards college students, is “fully aware of all the complications of being a college student and take full consideration of the expenses of a college student.
“We offer things like reducing their car insurance price if a student has a good driving record, a 3.0 or B average, if the student is independent as well as the location of the school. We are truly concerned about assisting our future generation; we are even trying to become sponsors for the SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference).”
