The Lady Lions picked up their second win in a row, as they defeated Southern University in Baton Rouge, La.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff led by as much as 15 points in the first half. The Jaguars cut into that lead and trailed 39-28 at the half.
The Lady Lions shot 11-of-20 from the field (55 percent), while the Jags went 11-of-22 for 45 percent from the field. UAPB was able to dominate at the free throw line, shooting 15-of-18 shots for 83.3 percent.
It was much of the same in the second half, but the Jaguars wouldn’t go down without a fight. Fredrieka Lewis connected on a lay-up and cut the Arkansas-Pine Bluff lead to 44-40 with 15:20. The Lady Lions, however, held tight to their lead.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff had four players in double digits. Delores Hughley led the Lady Lions with 15 points, while Arica Green and Tashalya Jackson both scored 14 points. Shadae Martin gave a double-double performance, scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds
For the Jaguars, Indi Johnson led SU scorers with 14 points and nine rebounds. Freda Allen completed her third double-double performance of the season, scoring 10 points and snatching 17 rebounds.
