The Southern University’s Faculty Senate will hold their elections this coming Monday, April 21 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Blue and Gold Room located in the Smith Brown Memorial Student Union, said Albert Samuels, president of Faculty Senate elections committee.
Candidates for president, School of Public Policy and the College of Sciences are the only three categories that will be voted on according to the list of prospects disseminated during the elections committee meeting that was held yesterday in Higgins Hall, fourth floor.
The presidential candidates are Eva Baham, assistant professor in history, and Sudhir Trivedi, assistant professor in computer science.
According to the list of nominees, two representatives are needed from the School of Public Policy. The three candidates are: William Arp III, professor in political science; Hassan Mahadallah, assistant professor in political science; and Albert Samuels, assistant professor in political science.
Seven representatives are needed from the College of Sciences. The nine candidates bidding for a position are: Deidra Bell (Biology), Erma Borskey (Social Work), Derek Cole, Katrina Cunningham (Mathematics), Ella Kelly (Chemistry), Anthony Igiede (Sociology), Humberto Munoz (Mathematics), Roslyn Richardson (Social Work) and Sharon Williams-Chriss (Chemistry).
The unofficial Spring 2008 ballot notes that there are not any candidates for secretary, College of Agriculture/Family & Consumer Sciences, School of Architecture, College of Business, School of Nursing, ROTC and Southern Laboratory.
The unopposed positions are: Kamran Abdoullahi, professor in Urban Forestry, for vice president; Diola Bagayoko for parliamentarian; Alma Thornton, director of the Center for Research and professor in sociology for treasurer.
Unopposed positions for the various colleges includes: Munir Ali (English), Peter Breaux (History), Cynthia Bryant (English), Raymond Lockett (History) and Thomas Miller (Foreign Language) all for the College of Arts and Humanities where five representatives are needed. Luria Stubblefield (Curriculum and Instruction) is the representative for the College of Education. Two officials needed for the College of Engineering are Edgar Blevins (Mechanical Engineering) and Walter Craig III (Electronics Engineering and Technology).
Additional unopposed positions are: Joseph Meyinesse (Science/Mathematics Education) for the Graduate School, Eddie Hughes (Special Collections) for the John B. Cade Library and Eric Pugh (Honors College) for the University College.
