Southern University tennis coach Jeffrey Conyers has plenty to smile about as his teams prepare for the Southwestern Athletic Conference championships.
That’s because both, men’s and women’s teams are undefeated atop the SWAC Western division.
Southern women (8-9, 8-0) caught fire following a loss to Texas-Pan American, winning eight consecutive games in SWAC play–with a string of victories coming against Alabama State, Alcorn, Alabama A&M, Mississippi Valley State, Jackson State, Grambling, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Prairie View, before losing two consecutive to Nicholls State and Louisiana State University.
Southern men (8-7, 8-0) also had a rocky start, but have since rebounded winning eight consecutive games with victories over SWAC rivals-Alabama State, Alcorn, Alabama A&M, Mississippi Valley State, Jackson State, Grambling, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Prairie View, before dropping two consecutive as they stepped out of conference against Nicholls State and Southern Mississippi.
Both men and women teams travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to face Bethune-Cookman Saturday, April 5. Game time is set for 10 a.m.
