Southern University English professor Kendric Coleman released his first book, Webs of Masculinity: Power, Money and Sex(uality) last February.
The book, which steams from Coleman’s doctorate of English dissertation gained from Louisiana State University, delves into how some African-American males are trapped in environments that keep them from developing an identity.
“I want them [the audience] to understand the complexities of growing up being a young African American male in America,” said Coleman.
Coleman said he was inspired to write the book after noticing how violent black men have become to protect their masculinity.
“Webs of Masculinity: Power, Money and Sex(uality)” is available now at the Barns and Noble website or other online bookstores.
