The Cotillion Ballroom was filled to capacity as on lookers waited with anticipation for the 2008 Miss Thicker Than a Snicker Pageant to begin. The pageant consisted of ten ladies who showcased their bodies in a sequence of scenes ranging from sportswear to evening gowns.
These contestants showed off their dancing skills, fashion sense and intellect as they competed for the crown and title.
The pageant began with a dance performance as the crowd rose to their feet with excitement. As a part of the introduction, each of the ladies stated their name, contestant number, class, hometown and major.
Next, the contestants demonstrated their flexibility to Kanye West’s “Workout Plan” as they incorporated their favorite foods into the sportswear scene. The ladies then changed into church attire for the next scene.
Announcers James Turner and former Miss Thicker Than a Snicker 2007, Elyse McFadden, specified each of the contestants’ favorite gospel song, scripture and home church as they made their way towards the stage.
Finally, the contestants were escorted around the ballroom in their evening gowns. The questions and answer portion of the show followed shortly after.
Before being crowned runner up, Erykah Butler, who introduced herself as “perfect 10,” said, “In the beginning I did really well. The question wasn’t what I wanted because I really wanted a question that I can preach to my audience so they can feel me like last year.”
Once the final segment was over, the judges tallied up their scores and crowned Brandy Dunn as Miss Thicker Than a Snicker. The pageant proved to be an overall success and already had audience members in anticipation for what is to come next year.
“It was refreshing to attend a pageant with creative themes,” said junior English major Tyra Price. “The various scenes were very clever and left members of the audience fully entertained.”
