Brandon Horne is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, Top Jags, The Collegiate 100, and an HBCU Whitehouse Scholar. He majors in History Education and is the last of five children from his parents Anissa and Marcus Horne. Who made him feel like the weight of the world, was always on his shoulder, and gave him the drive to succeed every day. Growing up in Monroe, Louisiana he was pointed out as the favorite child by his family and others. Since the age of five years old, he did sports such as playing football and running track & field, but it was the game of football that made him become part of the man he is today. Brandon stated that coming from a small town nobody rarely gets noticed and the only noticeable thing the city had were dancing dolls, a teenage dance team. Although he was selected Junior Class President last school term, he felt that wasn’t enough to exceed his goals.
For the 2023-2024 school year, Brandon decided to run for Student Government Association President. Brandon won by the most votes and is now living his college dream, making it known that no matter where you come from, no one should ever be afraid to reach their goals.
Hobbies that Brandon has in his free time are working out, catching five-dollar movies on Tuesdays, and enjoying eating tacos on Tuesdays. His workouts are important to him because the gym is where he relieves all the stress after a long week. A goal that our Student Government Association President plans to make happen this school year is to bring a new streaming series to campus called “SU TV.” “SU TV” will capture all the highlights that go on campus and in the classrooms about students’ achievements.
Brandon stated the only bumps and challenges that he had to deal with so far were making sure welcome week for the new freshmen class went very well and pleasing. After approaching a few freshmen about their welcome week, they enjoyed each event that happened that week including Pretty Wednesday, Trap Bingo, The Family Darty, and the Bayou Bash which in their opinion was the best part.
By being a member of Kappa Alpha Phi, college student, and Student Government Association President, Brandon pushes through his days by keeping his faith in God and praying every day. If he ever feels a lot of pressure and overwhelmed with his workload, then he takes a wellness break. After speaking to some students about Horne’s leadership so far, they spoke of him as a mentor, brother, and great supporting friend. While on the other hand, the big question they wanted to find out was what Mr. President had in store for the upcoming Homecoming events this year.
“I plan to get homecoming back to the way it was before COVID back in 2019 and to start it off for one of the events we plan on bringing back the gospel fest to the students as it once played a great role in the University and community,” Brandon vocalizes.
Once Brandon is done with his term as Student Government Association President, he plans to attend Grad school and get a master’s in educational leadership as he aspires to become a principal one day.
We look forward to seeing what Mr. President has up his sleeve for the remainder of the school year.
