It’s no secret that when former head coach Dawson Odums left Southern University football, many had high hopes for whoever would fill the new coaching position. Head coach Eric Dooley became the head coach for the Southern University A&M College football team in December 2021. He has made questionable calls when it comes to the playing field.
The lack of chances and playing time Dooley has failed to give many players, due to having favoritism, has signed his fate as head coach. As a result, many talented players on the football team are not receiving as much recognition as they deserve. Joe Brown states, “He kept a questionable QB in the game the entire season and failed to replace him with even better talent from the bench.” It seems almost like a slap in the face simply because many SU football fans had faith in Coach Eric. Students pay a portion for the football team, as told on Southern’s Student Portal, also known as Banner. As a student, I am annoyed with his constant stubbornness and ignorance displayed in offering fair, well-deserved playing, which could have resulted in winning.
Many students, faculty, and Alumni were taken aback by Coach Dooley’s hand in the loss Southern’s football team suffered, including a Southern University A&M College football fan under the alias “Joe Brown,” who took his frustrations petition.org. On this website, Joe started a petition on September 10, 2023, in hopes of getting Coach Dooley removed from his current position as Head Football Coach. As an advocate for the Southern football team, Joe Brown has succeeded in receiving a whopping 300 out of the 250 signatures needed to move forward with a coaching change.
Coach Dooley has been deemed unfit for the Southern University football team as the head coach. As a result, he is in the hot seat. Will a demotion be proposed?
