The campus Intramural parking lot came alive with vibrant colors and jubilant spirits as the much-anticipated college event, “Glow N the Bluff, ” occurred. The day started with a threat from the heavens as rain clouds loomed overhead. Still, thanks to the unwavering dedication of the Jaguar Activity Board, the event not only survived but thrived, bringing joy and excitement to students who attended.
The essence of “Glow N the Bluff” was to light up the night, and it began with the distribution of free glow sticks and light-up glasses to students in attendance. The sight of the campus lawn bathed in these illuminating accessories was truly a spectacle. Students adorned themselves with these radiant novelties, adding an extra layer of excitement to the evening.
To satisfy the sweet tooth of attendees, free cotton candy and ice cream stands were set up, ensuring that no one left the event with an empty stomach. The sweet treats blended perfectly with the electrifying atmosphere of the night.
Music is the heart and soul of any event, and DJ Neff kept the energy levels high by playing a diverse selection of music that catered to the varied tastes of the students. DJ Neff’s playlist had everyone grooving to the rhythm, from heart-thumping beats to mellower tunes.
The Acadian circus brought the event a dash of the extraordinary with its dazzling acrobatic performances. Their gravity-defying stunts and breathtaking aerial displays mesmerized the crowd, leaving students in awe of their incredible feats.
For the adventurous students in attendance, free bike tours along Elton C Harrison Drive were offered by Geaux Ride BTR. It was a great way to explore the campus and its surroundings while enjoying the fresh air and a little exercise.
Mini-games awaited students at every corner of the intramural lawn. From intense table tennis matches to the friendly competition of cornholes, from the thrill of rock climbing to the exhilarating bounce on trampolines, and even testing one’s mettle against a mechanical bull- there was a shortage of the environment.
Amidst all the activities, line dancing brought students together to showcase their moves, and the dance floor was always full.
The Office of Student Media had the opportunity to speak with the Entertainment executive of the Jaguar Activity Board, Ian Washington, who shared his thoughts on the event’s success. He stated, “Numerous challenges arose during this event, which was the highlight of our homecoming celebrations. Given that it was the largest outdoor event, we had hoped for perfect weather, but it rained continuously throughout the day. As a leader, I chose to remain calm and decided to proceed with the support of JAB’s E-board and our general body members as we prepared to launch the event right after the rain subsided. We promptly communicated the update to everyone, assuring them that the event would continue, and when it finally started, the outcome was truly amazing.”
Students who attended the event echoed Mr. Washington’s sentiments. Adria Burks, a Sophomore nursing major from Vicksburg, Mississippi, expressed, “I was a bit skeptical about coming because of the weather, but I’m glad I did!” The bike rides were my favorite part of the night!”
Takiya Smith, a Freshman Nursing major, exclaimed, “This was a cool event! The mini-games were different and kept us engaged. They should do this more often.”
“Glow N the Bluff” proved to be a tremendous success despite the initial weather concerns. The Jaguar Activity Board’s meticulous planning and the students’ enthusiasm transformed a potentially rainy night into an unforgettable experience. The event’s diverse attractions, from mesmerizing acrobatics to exciting games and pulsating music, made it a highlight of the college calendar. The rain may have threatened to terminate the event, but it ultimately became a shining beacon of fun and entertainment for all who attended.
