Southern University, are you ready for the Big Wave? Miss Southern University Speaks Homecoming Preparation. With the amazing and fun-filled activities that are to come next week, homecoming is right around the corner! Born in one of the most successful cities of Mississippi, Miss Jordan Williams was born in Madison, Mississippi with an amazing future ahead for her. She has grown into an amazing young woman and a role model for a lot of students here at Southern University. She currently classifies as a Senior, majoring in Animal Science to learn the science, art, and practical methods of caring for, improving, and managing livestock and companion animals.
As we prepare to witness Miss Williams be crowned as the 93rd Miss Southern University, on Wednesday, October 11th, Digest prepares Miss Williams with a one-on-one interview about what is expected to come our way for this week for homecoming. In the interview, Miss Williams was asked what special events she looks forward to as homecoming week approaches. “Besides the obvious which is coronation, I really look forward to the Queens Society Brunch because I will have the chance to be in a room with so many inspiring and wise former queens. I just love the importance of legacies in positions at HBCUs.”
She goes into detail about her process from the beginning to where she is today to explain her journey to being crowned at the coronation. She also explained that there is a lot that goes into being a queen such as events, looks for games and appearances, coronation, initiatives and so much more that rounds her budget up to around $108,000 as she manages her time as Miss Southern. Jordan says that her main responsibility for homecoming this week is that she made the decision to create her entire waltz for the coronation, so she must make sure her court and campus royalty know the dance. She has been mentally prepared for this week, so that means tackling schoolwork ahead of time. Also, she makes sure things move smoothly for their upcoming looks.
When asking Miss Williams if she could explain her experience as Miss Southern and a current student, Jordan vocalizes how she can tackle big challenges as she gives descriptive details of how she balances her life between being a full-time student here at Southern University and living the life of Miss Southern. “It is all about taking mental breaks and getting ahead on work beforehand! I always try to plan ahead because I’m a professional procrastinator. It has been crazy honestly. A lot more pros than cons. I get recognized almost everywhere. I love how much it has benefited me networking-wise and I can meet so many new faces! I also just love building relationships with students and breaking the barrier between student leaders and students.” As the conversation continues, Miss Southern shares that she has plans that could benefit her in the future and the university. “I plan on collaborating with my Miss Senior Gabrielle LeNoir with her Sustain the Yard event that focuses on campus beautification. I also plan on collaborating with some major brands that will be giving back to Southern University” emphasizes Miss Williams. Furthermore, Jordan Williams’ determination and driven attitude have given her the courage to grace our school as our new 93rd Miss Southern University with the strength, love, and encouragement from her late grandfather. Williams says that he influenced her and always wanted her to reach for the stars and always put emphasis on achieving an education and becoming a leader. Freshman, Nursing Major, and Computer Science Minor, Erica Link, says “I hope that Miss Southern can create a safe space for those who need a support system to understand that there are human beings with emotions and fears that can take the time to get to know them and support them.” Senior, Sociology major, Allison Fisher says “I hope Miss Southern University can teach young women how to have self-care and teach them how to build self-love in one another.”
