Meet Karah Rainwater, a rising force whose impact extends far beyond the campus grounds. A junior majoring in Mass Communications from Los Angeles, California, with a whopping 44,000 followers on Instagram, Karah’s journey is a testament to passion, dedication, and an unyielding commitment to making a difference.
Karah recently found herself in the heart of the Big Apple, representing Southern University as one of only 400 selected students at New York’s Advertising Week. Her face, accompanied by her brand “Black College Culture,” adorned the towering screens in the iconic Times Square. Rainwater, in a previous interview with the digest stated, “I am committed to sharing HBCU culture and life with students from similar backgrounds as me to ensure that they understand the magnitude and impact that these schools have on the lives and outcomes of its students.” Rainwater has remained true to her promises and she is now showcasing HBCU culture on a national level.
“I couldn’t believe it when I saw my face in Times Square. It was surreal, and it made me proud to represent my school and the values we stand for,” shared Karah, reflecting on the experience.
But that’s not the only high-profile stage Karah has graced. She was invited to The Breakfast Club, a popular radio show hosted by Charlamagne Tha God, where she was able to sit in on the action first-hand.
Rainwater’s influence goes beyond the airwaves; she is a NARS ambassador, seamlessly blending her passion for beauty and advocacy. Her collaboration with NARS has not only elevated her personal brand but has also empowered her to champion diversity and inclusivity within the beauty industry. She also holds deals with brands such as Clinique, Procter & Gamble, and Coach.
Recently, Karah received a letter from Nike, a global giant in the athletic and lifestyle industry. The letter acknowledged her outstanding accomplishments and contributions, and as a gesture of appreciation, Nike sent her some exclusive merchandise from their Yardrunner campaign.
“It’s incredible to receive recognition from a brand like Nike. It’s not just about the merchandise; it’s about the acknowledgment of the hard work and the impact I strive to make,” said Karah, humbled by the recognition.
Not only is Karah being recognized globally, but locally as well. Baton Rouge Mayor, Sharon Weston Broome honored Rainwater at the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Council meeting on Wednesday, November 8, 2023. Karah took to linkedin to share her accomplishments, stating, “It was an honor to be recognized for my accomplishment of being 4 out 400 applicants to be selected to attend Advertising Week 2023 and represent my University, Southern University A&M College. Thank you, Mayor Broome for the opportunity!”
