It was Alpha Week for the Beta Sigma Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, and the NFLPA-certified agent Paul Derouselle decided to take a trip to his former alma mater to inspire and motivate the new generation for their dreams. The rising NFL Agent joined his Greek brothers during Alpha Week for the “Phlag on the Play” panel. He would talk about his life story coming out of Eunice, Louisiana, and share advice and wisdom he gained throughout his journey to the future generation of his alma mater. He would first start his career in 2009 as a Magna Cum Laude graduate from SULC. Paul would work as a seasoned attorney in the Complex Commercial Litigation Department at a Top-10 global law firm. There, he would have the chance to represent entities such as the NFLPA, ESPN, CBS, Disney, and more. Paul would work at this law firm for many years, but despite the money, would end up unhappy as he felt he “had a greater purpose,” as Mr. Derouselle puts it. He would start his agency career trying to work with players from his hometown in Eunice. Success would not come easy as he got rejected on his first-ever offer. Despite the setback, he would keep going and eventually end up signing with a player from Alexandria who would go 61st in the NFL draft. That moment would’ve been Paul’s first break onto the scene; however, the success would be short-lived as this prospect would also part ways with Mr. Derouselle. After being met with failure after failure, Paul decided to re-imagine his game plan. He would go on to form “a true relationship with God.” As he put it, he would also go on to quit drinking. He would also learn to be more professional and intentional with his clients. This new outlook on his career allowed him to have the opportunity to negotiate with the likes of 2-time Pro Bowl and 2-time Second team All-Pro all-star Jeffery Simmons. He would end up negotiating the second-largest contract for a Defensive End in NFL history earlier this year. This blockbuster move would also land him a deal with New York Giants offensive lineman Tyre Phillips, whose contract expires this season. Paul now has more eyes on him than ever and is determined to face such challenges that come his way. Kaleb Wells, a senior Pre-Med major and a Greek member of the Beta Sigma Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, shared some of his thoughts on the event. “It went very well.” He stated, “It was a really good turnout.”. When asked about the event’s star guest, Paul Derouselle, Kaleb said, “(He) was actually a Beta Sigma brother. He was in our chapter.”. He also went on to say that the advice he gave to his fellow Greek brothers was “worthwhile advice that we apply to our lives.” Paul Derouselle, the star of the show, also decided to share his thoughts on how it felt speaking on a panel in front of his former alma mater saying “It’s humbling. When I came to Southern, I’d always see other people’s success stories. People who had battled adversity coming from an HBCU and went on to do great things. I never thought I’d be in a position one of those people who did enough to where people wanna hear my story.”
