Growing up in Baton Rouge or New Orleans, you were no stranger to the infamous annual Bayou Classic
that happens every year in the Big Eazy. For me personally, my family has made it a tradition to attend
the game before college was even a thought so – Saturday is the big day I’d look forward to.
From the Fan Fest in the morning to the game in the afternoon. The free, open to the public event, is
known for its pre-game festivities of music, vendors, and celebrity appearances.
This year’s lineup includes the events DJ performances; DJ Poppa and DJ KeithScott, Musician King
Bronze, Dance Break with GameOva Skip, and Artists: Daniel Heartless, Subtweet Shawn, Treety, and
Headliner – Boosie. This years well respected and cherished host for the FanFest will be hosted by Newly
Orleans Radio Host, Wild Wayne.
Are you excited, because I sure am. Whether you’re going to the actual game, the fan fest is filled with
thousands of Grambling and Southern fans whereas the city of New Orleans does an amazing job
marketing and offering a good time.
Southern University and A&M College was pleased to have both performing artist(s) Subtweet Shawn
and Treety for our Fall 2023 All-Southern Homecoming Concert. According to social media apps like
Sidechat and Fizz, students were rating the performances “played out & a cute 1,2 to shake.“
As far as Boosie, he’s no stranger to both cities as he hosts his annual Boosie Bash on the Southern
University campus at the F.G Clark Activity Center – so maybe he’ll treat his performance at Fan Fest as
such, bringing out a celebrity guest artist or as well as his entourage.
Boosie is known for surprises up his sleeve so we’ll have to keep our fingers crossed that he doesn’t just
show up at his night time bookings, but his daytime festivities as well.
With this being the celebration for the 50th anniversary of Bayou Classic as a whole, no matter your
generation you grew up in – the energy should exceed its expectations of not seeing the Championship
Square ground.
Whether it’s your first time to Fan Fest or not, the sun shall be blazing, alcohol will be at every corner,
and best believe your more die hard fans of both institutions will be in arms reach.
I’m excited to see the delivery from each performance and also clever ways to make this event name
it’s own highlight from the weekend.
If nothing else, let’s remain civil and just embrace the moments – big or small. The festival begins at
9:00am sharp and is expected to end at noon.
Kickoff begins at 1:00pm. If nobody told you this today, Go Jags!
