With the SWAC coming to a midseason point, anything is possible within the next coming weeks when it comes to the rankings in the East and West. The Jackson State Tigers moved from the 3rd to 2nd rank in the East after last week’s win vs Mississippi Valley State. The Jackson State Tigers enter week 10 with an overall record of 6-3 and a record of 4-2 in conference games, putting pressure on first-place Florida A&M. However, the Florida A&M Rattlers handled business against Prairie View A&M 45-7. Since week one, the FAMU Rattlers have made a statement throwing their dominance up against every opponent they have played except for one, leaving them with a 7-1 Overall record, holding the number one rank in the SWAC East. The Rattlers are currently 6-0 in conference games, which is the best in the SWAC overall. The Rattlers’ hard work paid off as the FAMU Rattlers have clinched their spot in the SWAC Championship. Moving forward, the wild West of the SWAC has been very intriguing as the Southern University Jaguars jumped from 3rd to the number one rank in the SWAC West after a modest victory Vs. Bethune-Cookman university. The Jaguars defeated the Wildcats 28-18 at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida. The Jaguars enter week 9 with a 4-3 Overall record and 3-1 in conference games. All eyes were on the Texas Southern game, and a miracle on the bluff happened as they won in overtime 23-17. The theme is now “All roads lead to Alcorn.” The game will have an electrifying atmosphere because a lot is at stake. The winner of this game will have the outright lead in the SWAC West and likely get to the SWAC Championship to face Florida A&M. As a reminder, the Jags have won the previous two matchups against Alcorn but haven’t won on the road against Alcorn since 2016, including 2 SWAC Championship matchups.
