My name is Deidrick Johnson, a junior here at Southern University and A&M College, and throughout my whole collegiate experience, I’ve always had my priorities mixed up going into each school semester. I thank God for blessing me with the grades to scrape by each semester so far but starting after this 2023-2024 school year, my focus is now on my major and grades.
I am a busy guy on campus and I tend to countless responsibilities, such as being the head RA over Jones Hall, writing stories for the Southern Digest Newspaper each week, working in the Information Technology department on campus, and being a part of an executive board of not one, but two organizations. I tend to wear my self-thin and always put my work on the back burner, so by the time I get to it I barely have the energy to give my 100% on it.
I’ve really taken a step back this year to evaluate ways I can keep myself in better condition for next semester. I’ve learned that being organized and keeping a planner is a good start to keeping myself and my priorities straight. I’ve also realized the environment and friends you surround yourself with play a big role in your energy to get things done and keep your morale and mindset where it needs to be to succeed.
Also, partying and extra activities are not as crucial as your future, so I’ve learned, they are there for you to have fun YES! But me and my future come first before anything else. Next semester I’m really going to buckle down on my schooling, so I can succeed in life. I also wish all of you Jaguars luck in the upcoming semester as well.
