Ordinary people. In classrooms, at jobs. In relationships, finding themselves. Long hair, new ‘dos. Old dress shirts, new suede suits. Some with the same ol’ attitudes, or some acting brand new. To some it’s lemons, to others, fresh juice—more inspiration to go above and beyond. To be bolder. To act more alive. To live in power, to not hide.
Ordinary people, yes, you and me. Doing our thing, whatever it may be. Talking long, sitting late. Buying flowers, going out on dates. Opening doors that you never realized were closed. Lighting new candles, welcoming light and love into our homes. Four eyes, two wide smiles, 20 fingers—one soul, combined. Sharing something deeper than what social media tries to expose. Being themselves openly and freely, together, yet both alone.
Ordinary people, in a world so very cold with war, drugs, corruption, inflation, and lack of expression. Cast in dull, grey, nothingness, but still daring to colorize. To find what ignites and excites them, challenging themselves not to be bored or unalive. Brave individuals, us, to not play the roles they cast for us, but writing our own.
Yes, you and me—the ordinary, unstoppable, never-denied, constantly-rising-above-what’s-required folk. The “you’re hired” folk. The job-get-don’ers. The no-stopping-til-I-won’ers. How we do it? The world wonders and wonders. Folk like me who sing gleefully. Folks like us that ignite any and everything we touch. The grind folk. The never-behind folk. The moving-on-our-own-time folk. Yeah, them folks. The folks that know that their contributions are valuable with or without recognition. And to the often overlooked, underpaid, overbooked… scratch that and add your own tax.
To those who look in the mirror and like what they see, or to those who’re convincing themselves that one day it’ll all be easy, love yourself anyway. And to those whose history goes further beyond what people’s eyes may see, let them know that they don’t know you until they’ve stepped at least 10 feet in your shoes. Everyone who knows they deserve a seat. To those people—people like you, people like me.
To whoever you are, in that classroom or at that job; in your old dress shirt or your brand new suit. Whether you’re eating those lemons, or making your own freshly squeezed lemon juice, find inspiration to go above and beyond. Be bolder, be more alive. Live in your power and do not hide.
To you and to me. Those unordinary, yet extraordinary, ordinary people.
