The HBCU Legacy Bowl is a game where the nation’s best HBCU players come together to play on the gridiron for one last time in their collegiate careers. The game does an outstanding job of displaying HBCU culture and helping develop black men and students. The two team names are Team Gaither and Team Robinson. These gifted athletes will showcase their abilities to numerous NFL Scouts, hoping they can be selected in this year’s NFL Draft. The Bowl Game is the finale, as the Legacy Bowl is a whole week. It starts with a combine dedicated just for these participating athletes where NFL scouts can properly evaluate these prospects. In addition, there is a two-day career in New Orleans, LA, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
Southern will be represented by three athletes. All players come from the defensive side of the ball. Graduate student defensive back Jordan Carter was one of the earliest selections for Southern University. Carter was First-Team All-Conference for the SWAC. Additionally, Carter comes with a wide scale of skills. His ability to play solid coverage balanced with his elite tackling makes him a strong candidate for this prestigious opportunity. Carter ended his season with four interceptions, 63 combined tackles, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. Safety Tyler Judson has shown some highlights throughout his career, particularly coverage-wise, as he is a gritty player who does an effective job at making the wide receivers’ jobs harder. Cornerback Demetri Morsell battled through injuries to earn this moment. He is also the same person who answered the call for the Jags in the 50th Bayou Classic when he made the game-clinching pass breakup in the endzone. He pushed himself through his obstacles, and now he has a chance to be in the league.
The significant aspect of the Legacy Bowl is that these players will be put in the national spotlight. The game will be televised on NFL Network on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 3 PM. Jag Nation, let’s support our fellow Jags as they prepare for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
