Loren Sullivan: Balancing Academics, Athletics, and Ambition

Among the bustling crowds traversing the campus pathways of Southern University, one name resonates with familiarity – Loren Sullivan. A junior majoring in Mass Communication Broadcasting, hailing from the radiant state of California, Ms. Sullivan is a distinguished figure within the university’s dynamic landscape. Holding pivotal roles such as a member of the Human Jukebox Media, a participant in the women’s golf team, and a dedicated Career Services Media Ambassador, Sullivan embodies the essence of a diverse student leader.
When asked “How do you balance working with Jukebox Media, doing school work, and making sure you have good grades? Loren stated “Growing up I was always very active, my parents made sure to instill into me that academics came first in everything I did. Sometimes it may get hard trying to battle everything but I have to stay focused on getting my degree as that is the main reason I am here.”
As the conversation continues the question “How do you maintain your motivation and drive despite the challenges you encounter?” Loren’s answer was: “My motivation stems from a deep-rooted desire to succeed and make the most of the opportunities available to me. Knowing that my hard work and dedication will ultimately lead to achieving my academic and career goals keeps me motivated, even during the toughest times. Additionally, having a support system of family, friends, and mentors helps me stay on track and navigate challenges effectively.’
Aside from being on the Human Jukebox Media team, she also stated that she is a Career Services Media Ambassador, a member of the women’s golf team, works within the athletic media team, and has her own production business.
When asked about her favorite game or parade experience, Sullivan expresses a fondness for the electrifying atmosphere of TSU games, particularly relishing the spirited band rivalry. “Coming from a background with limited exposure to the HBCU band world, experiencing the ‘family’ rivalry is truly remarkable,” she shares.
One of Loren’s biggest accomplishments is this year’s Fabulous Dancing Doll video that she directed and edited which gained over 200k views. “Being featured in many articles was very surreal for me. Furthermore, being the featured video for the football season intro video, playing every game in Mumford on the Jumbotron was a great accomplishment as well.”
Looking ahead to the future, Sullivan has ambitious aspirations post-graduation. “My biggest goal is to become a creative director in the music industry, collaborating with esteemed companies worldwide,” she reveals. Additionally, she envisions expanding her business and creating a mentorship platform for aspiring industry professionals.
