The Houston Texans experienced a remarkable transformation in the previous season, emerging as one of the most improved teams in the NFL. They are now preparing to carry forward this positive momentum into 2024. Following a challenging period with a league-worst record from 2020 to 2022, Houston surprised everyone last year with a winning record of 10-7. They returned to the playoffs and secured a victory for the first time in four years. Their success can accredited to C.J. Stroud, who was selected as the No. 2 overall pick in last year’s draft. He showed his abilities as a top-tier NFL QB by throwing over 4,000 yards and 23 touchdowns.
Looking ahead to 2024, Houston’s front office has been busy making strategic moves to capitalize on its cap space. They made headlines with a blockbuster trade for star wide receiver Stefon Diggs, adding depth to their receiving corps alongside Nico Collins and Tank Dell. Additionally, they secured tight end Dalton Schultz and veteran running back Joe Mixon, both their passing and ground game. On the defensive side, the Texans made significant signings, bringing in impact players like Danielle Hunter, Denico Autry, Azeez Al-Shaair, and Jeff Okudah. With these additions, they aim to elevate their defense to a top-five ranking in both scoring and total defense.
The Texans do not have a first-round draft pick this year. They sent their pic to the Minnesota Vikings. They will not pick until the 42nd pick in the draft. They have nine draft picks this year, which I see them using to improve on the defense side of the ball while improving on their interior offense of line. Like offensive tackle Javon Foster out of Missouri and Michigan DB Mike Sainristill.
What’s most impressive is that Houston added players who boast impressive stats in sacks, rushing yards, and receptions, setting a new record in NFL history for offseason acquisitions. Plus, the team’s decision to maintain consistency in their coaching staff, led by DeMeco Ryans and offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, bodes well for their continued success. With Stroud’s sensational rookie season and the team’s solid foundation, including nine picks in the upcoming draft, the Texans are eyeing their first Super Bowl appearance shortly.
