Southern University constantly strives to uphold the standard of excellence. However, it’s the leaders on campus that inspire and encourage students to reach personal success and higher endeavors, Sergeant Williams is that leader. She is a respected member of Southern’s community because she works tirelessly to help the campus remain a safe space for all students, faculty, and staff. Williams has full days as she currently oversees evidence and supplies while also participating in FTO training, the recruitment team, and community policing. The strength and grace that Sergeant Williams carries herself with serve as a foundation for a secure and attentive school atmosphere.
Williams had to work hard for her title of Sergeant. When she first came to Southern she started in trafficking and parking, there she was able to create relationships with students, and when she saw an opening, she applied to the police department. Once Williams was hired by the department she began training immediately in the field and was sent to the academy. Upon her return, she was now a full-fledged officer on campus. Williams said, “From there, my work spoke for me and I was able to move up in rank and become a Sergeant.”
Sergeant Williams is a role model to the women of Southern University’s campus because she approaches her role with dedication and a profound sense of responsibility. Her commitment to the safety and well-being of the campus community is evident in everything she does. William’s sense of attention to detail and clear understanding of the importance of her position, allows her to carry out her duties with the utmost seriousness. Sergeant Williams says her job is a blessing because “I don’t consider this a job, it’s more of a hobby to me.” They say that when you find something you love to do you will never work a day in your life and Williams could not agree more. She expresses that “I feel confident when I come to work and I feel confident that every day is going to be a good day”. Her undeniable love for the job keeps her grounded and ready to come to work day after day.
Williams is a familiar face on campus who is always friendly and ready to engage with the student body. Sergeant Williams dedication to Southern goes way past her job description to protect and serve as she seeks to better the lives of students through tending to their mental and physical needs as well. Williams has helped students obtain housing, seek therapy for mental needs, and has always offered a listening ear and voice of reason. She admits that “ having a rapport with students is my favorite part of my day”. Williams loves it when students approach and greet her because “having a relationship with the students makes my job so much easier.” The students have also inspired Sergeant Williams to go back to school, where she is now pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice at Southern.
The entirety of Southern University can attest to the amazing woman that Sergeant Williams is, she embodies the essence of leadership and service, leaving a profound mark on all who have the privilege of knowing her.
