When you think about spring football, you usually think of college spring workouts and games. In this case, there’s not only college spring football anymore, but there will be a new professional League with some exciting football to be showcased. This league is formally known as the United Football League, which also stands for “UFL.”
The newfound league is a combination of the previous XFL and USFL. We usually do not get to see any more football action after February, but things have changed, according to UFL CEO and President Russ Brandon. Some might say this is an unusual time frame to be playing professional football especially because it’s considered the offseason for this sport. Spring football has a new ring to it, with the UFL now participating, and it also gives athletes a second chance to fulfill their dreams and goals of playing professional football. This league is like the NFL but has its differences, of course.
The NFL has thirty-plus teams, and the UFL only consists of eight from the merger of the XFL and USFL. The rules and regulations of the UFL have been modified and added on to. Unlike the NFL for an extra point or two-point conversion after a score, the UFL will offer one-point, two-point & three-point conversions varying depending on the yard line of where the team would like to attempt it from. Overtime rules will look different in this spring league but will catch the interest of the fans, making it a more engaged game. Overtime will consist of alternating attempts to score from the opponent’s five-yard line with no kicks allowed. The format will be the best of the three or until a winner has been determined.
The New league will bring excitement and joy to fans while also giving athletes a chance to showcase their skills on national television sounds like a spring success.
