Tensions are hot and high at Southern University! Just as homecoming is over and students are settling back down, chaos strikes again! A group of girls created a group chat on a communications app, GroupMe entitled, “Who’s Boyfriend?” and shared photos of who they are currently dating, in hopes to clear up any doubts about cheating. Responses from other girls weren’t very appealing and word of the GroupMe spread on Twitter.
Southern University students spammed Twitter with tweets and their opinions saying that “Southern dudes are for everybody.” The awareness of this group chat expanded as students crowded the back of Boley Hall around midnight to fight one another.
S.G.A President Carlos Brister was not thrilled by these events and tweeted, “Y’all do not understand the behind-the-scenes conversations because of yall actions.” Brister was highly disappointed in the students due to bypassing the curfew last month.
The behavior of students on campus has been outrageous since the start of homecoming, and many students hope to see a change. The acts of the students are causing disciplinary actions by the administration and for students to not feel safe on this campus.
For example, Brister stated on Twitter that the haunted house and costume party that was planned for students will now no longer be held due to “unforeseen circumstances.” It is important that students take the actions needed to avoid disturbances or violent actions.
The Digest asked nursing major, Syniya Andrews for her opinion on the group chat and she said, “At this age, y’all should not be contacting strangers to see if your man is cheating. The students must do better!”
Yakyra Parker, a nursing major as well stated, “What went on in the group chat was wild and immature to say we are college students.”
“Are we in high school or college?” says an anonymous tweeter. The students are not thrilled by the immaturity that has been going on this semester. It’s about time we all showcase some dignity and leave the petty drama in high school.
