Suddenly arriving in the music industry, highlighting fashion and showing the world that it’s okay to be different, Lady Gaga continues to stun her audiences with her innovative ideas and deep lyrics in her new album, titled “ARTPOP.”
Gaga first entered the music world by being signed to Def Jam Records in 2005, but was dropped shortly after. Even though Gaga was dropped from Def Jam Records, it only inspired Gaga to continue performing at small clubs in New York City.
In 2007, Gaga began to work with Interscope Records as a songwriter for artists such as Britney Spears, and the boy-turned-man band, New Kids on the Block.
Through 2007 and 2008, Gaga wrote and recorded her debut album, titled “The Fame,” which was released on August 19, 2008. The album received positive reviews and quickly became a success in the United States and across the world.
The album’s sequel, “The Fame Monster,” was released in November of 2009. It received positive reviews as well and showed a darker side of fame from Gaga’s personal experience.
Gaga released her second studio album, “Born This Way,” on May 23, 2011. With anthem style lyrics and a marriage of electronic music with rock and roll, “Born This Way” was the escape to every listener who was deemed different or abnormal.
The album’s hit single, “Born This Way,” topped the charts in over nineteen countries in addition to selling over a million copies worldwide. According to iTunes, it became the fastest selling song in iTunes history.
Now, being released on November 11, 2013, “ARTPOP,” continues the musical journey of Lady Gaga, being a lot more relaxed than its predecessors. Gaga takes her music into a wild and deranged new direction and the album’s overall tone is less serious than the anthem “Born This Way,” however, it still touches on themes such as self-worth, love, and empowerment.
In an interview with KIIS FM, Gaga states that the album is a non-stop party.
“It’s my intention for you to have a really good time,” said Gaga.
“I designed it for it to be fun from start to finish, like a night at the club in terms of the DJ-ing aspect of it. I really wrote it for me and my friends to pop in from start to finish.”
The album’s first single and last track, “Applause,” let’s its listeners know what they are really about to get themselves into when it comes to the album as a whole, serving as an appropriate end to the “ARTPOP” story.
“Do What U Want,” featuring R. Kelly, is the album’s second single and seventh track. Strangely, the R&B veteran and the ‘Queen of Pop’ fit together like two puzzle pieces, and the pair have created a specific blueprint for their collaboration.
“ARTPOP” looks to re-think the typical “pop album” as a whole, and Gaga effortlessly ties together the true aspects of art and pop into one album.
