Attention Jaguars! On Wednesday, September 24, the Career Services Center will be hosting the Fall Career Fair from 9 AM to 3PM, in our F.G. Clark Activity Center. For this event, a wide range of companies will set up a booth in our mini dome solely to meet with future professionals like yourself! According to Program Coordinator Mr. Samuel Ross ,“The goal of the career fair is to give students opportunities for co-ops, internships, and potential employment.”
The Career Fair is an amazing chance to create a lasting first impression on potential employers, scout for internship opportunities, practice professional skills, and more. From the Jag community, Ari Harris, a graduating senior, remarks the Career Fair has benefitted her: “The Career Fair has helped me advance professionally by introducing me to new companies and providing opportunities that I may have never come across on my own!”
In addition to networking activities, there will be an opportunity for students to receive their free professional headshots, so dress professionally! As you prepare for the career fair, it’s important to ensure that you have signed up for and established a professional Handshake profile, which can put you in direct contact with a potential employer. It is important to dress professionally and arrive in proper business attire. For ladies, this means dark colored blazers and pants or an appropriate length skirt; for gentlemen, a dark colored suit is recommended.
Preparation for this event goes deeper than business clothes, as we approach the fair, use your resources to prepare for the event. Many campus organizations are using their position to host events to prepare resumes, elevator pitches, and build interview skills.
Finally, remember to bring at least 15 hard copies of your professional resume. Senior Mya Foster advises first time attendees to remain confident and intentional, “Be sure to introduce yourself in a professional manner and remember that body language is everything! Be the best version of yourself, because you never know the opportunities that will come to you!”
