As the fall season approaches, students are out creating looks that speak volumes. But this season, fall fashion is more than just a shift in temperature; it reflects identity, creativity, and character. On Southern’s campus, fashion has become a form of both self identity and storytelling with every outfit. Students are not only staying warm this fall but are also highlighting their personalities and telling their stories through their clothes.
Deshawn Hurst, a Junior, made a notable impression with his choice of clothing: a sharp suit and bow tie. When asked what inspired his outfit for the day, he stated, “My outfit today is a suit, which symbolizes professionalism, gentlemen-ship, and business. I wore a bow tie because the careers where they have bow ties are those that are currently serving.” His attire reflected not only a sharp sense of style but also a commitment to his values. The versatility the students bring to the campus with fashion is unmatched.
Brandon Shaw, a sophomore, stood out with his distinctive throwback style. The pink and brown he incorporated with his outfit flowed well and brought a sense of nostalgia. When asked what influenced his outfit for the day he said, “I just wanted to be legendary and bring back the old school swag.” His old school flare turned heads, made statements, and created an outfit that showed something that was out of the norm and not fitting into a “box”.
Rianna Mafnas, a sophomore, drew inspiration for her outfit from her love of France. “I really like France, and I like the fashion there, but I also like staying true to myself and who I am as a person,” Mafnas shared. “So, I try to incorporate professionalism with creativity.” Her passion captured both elegance and her unique personal style, blending classic influences with her individuality.
Fashion is our canvas for self-expression. Whether you are keeping it classic or trying something new, your style tells a story. Because here at Southern University, fashion is not just what you wear it’s how you wear it.
