Greek Rowe came alive this past weekend as the Alpha Chapter of Omega Tau Pi Sorority, INC. brought new life to one of their most treasured symbols, their historic tree. What started as a vision became a vibrant reality, as the sisters spent three days working tirelessly to repaint and reclaim the tree that represents decades of strength, unity, and sisterhood.
The project kicked off on Saturday morning and continued through Monday evening, with members showing up every day ready to give their all. For many, this moment wasn’t just about painting, it was about legacy. “This tree means so much to us,” said Amari Smith, junior nursing major and Vice President of the Alpha Chapter. “I’m glad we finally have a space on Greek Rowe that’s ours. It’s a place where we can gather, reflect, and even just sit under to study or do our work. It feels like home.” Advisor Latasha Hunt shared in the excitement, reflecting on the journey that led to this moment. “This has been something we’ve been waiting for,” Hunt said. “To see our women come together and pour their hearts into this project it’s inspiring. It’s about reclaiming not just a tree, but our place in history.”
The event was made even more special when National President Tonya Lewis traveled to campus to celebrate alongside the chapter. She rolled up her sleeves and joined the painting efforts, focusing on the surrounding sidewalk to complete the transformation. Adding to the historic moment, founder Zanovia Chube Curtis also arrived to encourage the sisters and help bring the vision to life.
By the end of Monday night, the tree stood proudly in bold, fresh colors, a visual reminder of the chapter’s resilience and commitment to their values. “This is more than paint on a tree,” Smith said with a smile. “It’s a declaration that Omega Tau Pi is here, and we’re here to stay.”
