With the end of tournament season and college basketball season, the Southern University Chapter of Collegiate 100 hosted a 3v3 basketball tournament with a cash prize of $300 at the Seymour Gym. The event’s purpose was to be a beneficial event with numerous organizations and students who enjoy the game of basketball to showcase their skills for an opportunity at this great money-making opportunity.
In the tournament, 12 teams competed, with the teams Baba and Boot Boys facing off in the first round. Team Baba would advance to face the Oreos in round 2. Round 1 was intense across the board for all teams. Without a doubt, you can see that every team was leaving everything out on the floor for the win, and it only progressed throughout the tournament. It would be teams BR-B, Baba, and JDH making it to the third round, which would Br-B would go against Baba, leaving JDH with a bye. Br-B fell short to Baba in their match-up, and they would go on and face JDH in the final.
The participation was at an all-time high and allowed the energy to be electric from the start of the tournament to the end the final teams Baba and JDH were battling with each other the whole game, and it could have gone both ways, but ultimately Baba would keep their momentum the whole way through and hit a dagger 3 point shot to seal the their win and $300.
The events for C100 week were planned by the members of the organization. Senior Business Management major from Seaford, Delaware, Ja’Kai Jones, spoke after the event about the program’s outcome. “It was good; I feel like a lot of people came out to play, and it was fun.”
As C100 week drew to a close, there was a lot of campus community involvement, with numerous organizations coming together for a cause. Jones also added the intentions of the event itself. “It was mainly towards health and wellness, so people got to come out here and be compressed, and I think it was overall good.”
